Eörsi István: A lusta légy

Portre of Eörsi István

A lusta légy (Hungarian)

Egy pókhálóban boldogan
lüktet a légy szíve:
kényelmes függőágya van
s nem kell repülnie.

Puhán befészkeli magát,
hol legsűrűbb a szál,
s nézi míg ringatja az ágy,
Pók Pufi mit csinál.

Ez hálója zugában ül
s nyög mint egy nagybeteg,
mert ma már istentelenül
sok legyecskét evett.

The lazy fly (English)

In the cobweb, gladly beating,
is the heart of the fly:
he has cosy hammock-seating
and does not need to fly.

He nestles softly mongst the strings,
where thickest is the fuzz,
and watches, whilst his hammock swings,
what Chubby Spider does.

That one just sat and moaned and loomed
as one sick, soon to die:
today to surfeit he'd consumed
many a tiny fly.
