Biography

Géza GÁRDONYI (Agárd 3 aug. 1863 – Eger 30 okt. 1922), Hongaars schrijver, onderwijzer en journalist, begon met populistische novellen, waarvan de hoofdfiguur, Meneer de Drost Gábor Göre, het symbool van de wijze, rechtvaardige, maar wat oubollige landman is geworden. Zijn historische romans zijn: A láthatatlan ember (De onzichtbare mens, 1902; Ned. vert.: De roode roos, 1947), Isten rabjai (1908; Ned. vert.: Slaven van God, 1948), en Egri csillagok (De sterren van Eger, 1901).
