poet, translator, writer of song lyrics, literary critic, essayistHe was born in Košice 25 February 1946. He studied Slovak and Russian at the Philosophical Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, graduating in 1969. From 1967 to 1970 he was on the editorial staff of the magazine Mladá tvorba (Young Creation); later worked as a theatre dramaturgist (Poetic Scene, the Army Ensemble of Music and Dance, Studio S). From 1987 to 1993 he was acting editor and editor in chief of the monthly Slovenské pohľady (Slovak Review). Since 1997 he has worked on the editorial staff of the weekly Domino fórum. He lives in Bratislava.
