Bertók László oldala, Angol életrajz
Életrajz
[Magyar] [Angol]
Born in 1935, into a farming family at Vése, south of Lake Balaton, László Bertók’s early career was blighted by the black marks that he earned from the Communist authorities for writing verse considered critical of the régime whilst he was still at high school. That largely pushed him into his first jobs as a librarian, working his way up to become director of the County Library at Pécs and, eventually, editor of the city's well-known literary magazine, Jelenkor.
BERTÓK’S POETRY DOES NOT BELONG TO ANY SCHOOL. Whilst he takes a classical stance to themes of transcendence and the universe, his unorthodox voicings transform the tradition in ways that are unique in contemporary Hungarian literature.
