Gałczyński, Konstanty Ildefons: Złota kąpiel

Portre of Gałczyński, Konstanty Ildefons

Złota kąpiel (Polish)

Kiedyś oczy w wodzie umoczył,
woda była szafirowa,
a kiedyś usta umoczył,
woda stała się pąsowa.

A kiedyś w wodzie utopił loki,
to przyszedł z nieba anioł wysoki,
biały jak piana z mydła.

I widząc wodę, że płynie złotem,
nabrał ją w dłonie troszkę, a potem,
rozlał ją sobie na skrzydła.

Golden Bath (English)

When you wetted your eyes
The water became sapphire,
And when you wetted your lips
It became blush afire.

But when your locks were drowned
An angel came from heavens’ abode
Foamy pure white, benign.

And watching the stream of gold
He filled his hands with water drop
And spread on his wings.
