Te Deum (Hungarian)

Téged Isten dicsérlek
és hálát adok mindenért.

Hogy megvolt mindig a mindennapim
és nem gyűjtöttem másnapra valót,
hála legyen.

Hogy mindig jutott két garasom adni
és magamnak nem kellett kéregetnem,
hála legyen.

Hogy értenem adatott másokat
s nem kellett sírnom, hogy megértsenek,
hála legyen.

Hogy a sírókkal sírni jól esett
és nem nevettem minden nevetővel,
hála legyen.

Hogy megmutattál mindent, ami szép
és megmutattál mindent, ami rút,
hála legyen.

Hogy boldoggá tett minden, ami szép
és ami rút, nem tett boldogtalanná,
hála legyen.

Hogy sohasem féltem a szeretettől
és szerethettem, akik nem szerettek,
hála legyen.

Hogy akik szerettek, szépen szerettek
és hogy nem kellett nem szépen szeretnem,
hála legyen.

Hogy amim nem volt, nem kívántam,
és sohasem volt elég aki voltam,
hála legyen.

Hogy ember lehettem akkor is,
mikor az emberek nem akartak emberek lenni,
hála legyen.

Hogy megtarthattam a hitet
és megfuthattam a kicsik futását
és futva futhatok az Érkező elé
s tán nem kell a városba mennem
a lámpásomba olajért,
hála legyen!

Hogy tegnap azt mondhattam: úgy legyen!
és ma is kiálthatom: úgy legyen!
és holnap és holnapután és azután is
akarom énekelni: úgy legyen! -
hála legyen, Uram!
hála legyen!

Te Deum (English)

Thee, O God, I praise,
I’m grateful for my ways.

That I always had my daily bread,
and didn’t hoard things for days to come,
praise be to you.

That I always had a penny to give,
and I myself did not have to beg,
praise be to you.

That I had the gift of understanding,
and didn’t have to beg to be understood,
praise be to you.

That I sincerely wept with the weeping,
and didn’t laugh with all the laughing,
praise be to you.

That you showed me all the beauty around,
and you showed me all that’s ugly,
praise be to you.

That all the beauty made me happy,
and what’s ugly didn’t embitter me,
praise be to you.

That I never feared loving others,
and I could love those not loving me,
praise be to you.

That those loving me loved me fairly,
and I never had to love unfairly,
praise be to you.

That I didn’t long for what I had not,
and never satisfied me what I was,
praise be to you.

That I could remain human even
when humans didn’t want to be human,
praise be to you.

That I was able to keep my faith,
and finish the race of the little ones,
I can run and rush to meet the Coming,
and I might not have to go to town
to fetch some oil for my lamp to fill,
praise be to you.

That yesterday I could say, ’So be it!’,
and today I can shout again, ’So be it!’,
and also tomorrow and all the days after
I want to sing, ’So be it!’ -
praise be to you, my Lord,
praise be to you.
