Rab Zsuzsa: A kezdet szabadsága

Portre of Rab Zsuzsa

kristály eget fújt tágra a fejem fölött.
S ha jött a tél, fagyok adták ki mérgüket:
fehér-kék bál volt, tollkavargás, szédület.
Nem hó esett a kékesfényü éjjeken:
kuszált, ezüstös szálakon a végtelen
röptette, húzta szűk köreinket fölfelé,
s zúdult a csillagfény, vakult a szem belé.
Vonal, tömeg feloszlott lassan, szétbomolt,
fényfoltot láttam, árnyék táncát, színgomolyt.
Eggyésodort-font végeset és végtelent
húszéves ifjuságom és a képzelet.

Freedom of the beginning (English)

Nothing had form, or weight, or depth beneath the sun.
I belonged to no one and was in debt to none.
Freer no landscape could ever have been for me,
even when beggared, no mortal could richer be:
had lair, bread, army smokes if there was cash enough,
somehow the here and there provided other stuff.
No bunches came with autumn, just the green it brought,
hues for leaves, duff smell, the passing lure of a thought,
a silken haze, which rose, was blown aside and went,
and widened above me the crystal firmament.
When winter came, the frosts displayed their angriness:
white-blue that dance was, fluff-swirl and giddiness.
During those blue-lit nights there was no fall of snow:
infinity, on wispy threads with silver glow,
pulled our tight circles flying toward the sky,
and starlight was streaming, was blinding to the eye.
Slowly the line and mass untangled and dispersed,
I saw a patch of light, shadow dance, colour-burst.
Finite and infinite rolled into one in me
by youth - my twenty years -, and flights of fantasy.
