Mezey Katalin: Blessed (Boldog in English)

Portre of Mezey Katalin

Back to the translator

Boldog (Hungarian)

akinek nem rongyos a lelke,
de fényes, mint a nehéz selyem,
aki hiszi is, amit mondott,
akit nem zsarol a félelem,

boldog, akit nem az önérdek
kormányoz, hanem önként szolgál,
adósait nem tartja számon,
görbe utakon titkon sem jár.

Boldog, akinek láthatatlan
púpként a múlt nem ül a hátán,
nem üzletel gazemberekkel,
árnyékán nem táncol a sátán.

akinek a szemén kifénylik,
hogy süt benne az Isten napja,
akinek lelke nehéz selymét
magasságos szél lobogtatja.

Blessed (English)

is the one whose soul isn’t frazzled
but shiny like heavy silk,
who believes in what she has said,
who isn’t blackmailed by fear,

blessed is the one not driven by
self-interest but serves others,
doesn’t keep count of her debtors,
not even unseen does she cheat.

Blessed is the one on whose back
past doesn’t sit like a hidden hump,
who doesn’t bargain with villains,
on whose shadow satan doesn’t dance,

on whose eyes it’ll always sparkle
that God’s sun shines inside her,
whose soul like heavy silk is
being waved by celestial winds.
