Zaj (Hungarian)

Kislánykoromban a gúny, s a feszült
igyekezet, hogy jó legyek. Hiába.
A lázadás, mely éppen csak lehűlt,
most mélyen fortyog bennem, mint a láva.
A szerelemnek hívott tévelygések,
a kín horga, min vágy volt a csali,
és bölcs lettem de süket, mint a vének,
vagy zaj van. Az Istent nem hallani.
Mi jöhet még? A lassú szétesés
sejtről sejtre. A kíméletlen gének
sodornak már a végső csönd felé,
míg hallgatom a szívverésem. Félek.

(Túl mindazon, de innen mindezen
mi mást tehetnék, minthogy létezem?)

Noise (English)

When I was small, the scorn and the strained
effort to be good and behave. Hopeless.
Rebellion that just cooled off inside me
bubbles now deep in there like lava mess.
Fumbling about, called love, actually,
the hook of misery with desire as a bait,
and I grew wise but deaf like the old usually,
or there’s just noise. God can’t be heard.
What else can happen? Falling apart, decrease
cell by cell. Ruthless genes drifting me ahead,
already towards eternal silence and peace,
while I listen to my heartbeats. I’m scared.

(Beyond all that, but before all this,
what else could I do, but simply exist?)
