Ady Endre: Rendben van, Uristen

Portre of Ady Endre

Rendben van, Uristen (Hungarian)

Ki akarta, hogy megtagadjam

Örök Sionát messzehagyjam

S visszakolduljam öregen

Magamat ismét unt kegyébe?

Lelkes képem kinek a képe,

Kinek roskadok én elébe,

Amikor minden elhagyott

S nem tudom, ő van-e valóban?

Ki füröszt engem rosszban, jóban,

Kibe olvadok elmulóban,

Kitől kérdem meg egy napon,

Vajjon kinomban kedve telt-e?

Ki akarta, ki istenelte,

Bus lényemet igy ki nevelte,

Ilyen gyávának, kicsinek,

Hogy makacsul még meg se haljak?

Ki akarta, hogy ne akarjak

S mint csenevész, őszi fű-sarjak,

Feküdjek kaszája elé

S igy szóljak: rendben van, Uristen?

All's well my Lord (English)

Who wanted, that I deny him,

Leave his timeless Zion, try him,

And beg in old age yet again

For acceptance in his bored grace?

In whose likeness is my soul-face,

Bows to whom assure my all's place

When I, by all abandoned, am

Still unsure and doubt enslaves me?

Good or ill, who daily laves me,

At the end what merger saves me,

Whom can I ask: when he had seen

His creature suffer, was he thrilled?

Who wanted, who divinely willed,

Who in my sorry self instilled

This cowardice, this pettiness,

This unyielding no to dying?

Who willed, that I, not defying,

Like fall's stunted grasses, lying

Before his scythe just say to him:

All's well my Lord and I accept?
