Biography

Jan Balabán (1961-2010) is one of the most popular Czech contemporary writers. He is a master of the short story as was proved by the fact that his volume of short stories Možna že odcházíme (Perhaps We Are Leaving) received in 2005 the Magenesia Litera Prize and was proclaimed Book of the Year 2004. But Balabán also made name with his novels, like Kudy šel anděl (Where The Angel Went) from 2003. In 2004 he was nomintaed for the Czech State Prize for Literature.
