Sládek, Josef Václav: A Dream (Sen in English)
Sen (Czech)
Mně o kouzelné zahrádce
V měsíčném svitu s jabloně
A kol jak stromy šelestí, pták zachvěl se a ztich: Pochmurný stín mu k srdci sáh a na vše napad sníh. |
A Dream (English)I dreamed of an enchanted garden-
the strange and haunted sight of a fairytale landscape, pictured in the fading evening light. An apple tree stood in the moonlight; massed flowers across the sky: on the dew-decked garden there fluttered a black-winged butterfly. The rustling branches were moving, by a warblers melody stirred; and I thought: ’A song of pure rapture!' at the voice of the golden bird. All at once-like a blanket of terror- the bird stopped in the midst of his sound. On his heart fell a sinister shadow; and the snow fell all around. |
