Křesadlo, Jan: Rondel o lesním ohni

Portre of Křesadlo, Jan

Rondel o lesním ohni (Czech)

Střapatou září rozkvet chlum:
syn slunce na umrzlé zemi.
Podobni neandrtálcům
vztahujem k němu ruce, němi.

Živen a hýčkán námi všemi,
Modla těch, kterým chybí dům,
dravě se lísá k polenům
syn slunce na umrzlé zemi.

Den přešel šťastně. Příštím dnům
čelíme zkřehlí pod jedlemi.
Blíž ! Nechať ruce zadýchne mi
žhavý dech pouště Karakum !
Aj, požehnání zástupům:
Syn slunce na umrzlé zemi.

The Woodland Fire Rondel (English)

Copse, with glow tattered flowering
On frozen earth, the Sun’s own son.
Neanderthals resembling
Mute, we stretch out our hands as one.

Nurtured, pampered by everyone,
Effigy to which vagrants sing;
To your logs fiercely flattering
On frozen earth, the Sun’s own son.

One day down. What the next may bring
Freezing under the Firs we shun.
Nearer ! Breathe so my hands may stun
Karakoum desert’s blazing sting !
Yea, massed worshippers beckoning:
On frozen Earth - the Sun’s own son.
