Ladányi Mihály: Epilogue (Epilógus in English)

Portre of Ladányi Mihály

Epilógus (Hungarian)

Nem lágyszavú költemények ezek,
estéktől sáros arcomból röppen fel csak a
kitépett tollú szél,

csak szemem zöld esőcseppje billeg
háztetők piszkos lapulevelein, melyek alól
penészes álmokat szívnak ki a szellőzőaknák.

Vagyis nem hangulatos költemények ezek,
csökönyös, bezárt ajtók leginkább
lerontott házak téglarakásain.

Büntetőjogi felelősségem tudatában és
derékig belemártva már a halálba
és Archimédész törvénye szerint

halálból kiszorított életemmel
vonítom, nem költemények ezek, csak
csillagok kutyaláncon.

Epilogue (English)

This is not smooth-worded poetry,
just my face muddy from evenings lets
the broken-feathered wind fly,

just the green raindrops of my eyes lurch
on dirty burdocks of roofs, from where
air-shafts syphon out mouldy dreams.

I mean, this isn’t easy-flowing poetry,
rather mostly obstinate, locked doors
on broken bricks of dilapidated houses.

Fully aware of my legal liability and
submerged in death already up to the waist
and according to Archimedes’ principle

with my life displacing death
I howl that this is not poetry, merely
stars on a dog-chain.
