Füst Milán: Farewell poem of a Hellenist Arab bard (Egy hellenista arab költő búcsúverse in English)

Portre of Füst Milán

Egy hellenista arab költő búcsúverse (Hungarian)

Ó én völgyem, hegyem,

S ó én szép, barna feleségem,

S ó lágy, légi kéz, mely végigsimítottad homlokomat,

S ti éjszaka örvényei s fekete tüzei szivemnek,

S félelmek anyja, te hármas Hekaté, -

Én elmegyek, én elmegyek, örökre búcsúzom,

S nincs gyermeki báj, amely kicsalna siromból

S barna lánynak édes panasza, mely mosolyra késztetné ajkam,

Mert néma lettem, mint a föld,

S néhány évszázad múlva felszánt a földmüvelő

S csontjaim porát a szél összekavarja.

Farewell poem of a Hellenist Arab bard (English)

Oh, valley of mine, mountain of mine,

And oh, beautiful brown wife of mine,

And oh, soft air hand with which you smoothed my brow,

And you, whirlpools of the night and black fires of my heart,

And mother of fears, you, threefold Hecate, -

I leave, I leave, say farewell for ever.

And there is no child-like charm, which would call me forth from my grave

And sweet lament of a brown girl, which would bring a smile to my lips,

Because I became dumb like the earth,

And in a few centuries men of the soil will plough me up

And the dust of my bones will be stirred around by the wind.
