Borbély Szilárd: Planctus (Planctus in English)

Portre of Borbély Szilárd

Planctus (Hungarian)

A Bal Latorért

A keresztnek magasába'
lebeg Teste pálma ága,
s alkonyatra hajladoz.
Mígnem Krisztus árnyékába',
a Halálnak hajlékába
megtérnek az Angyalok.

Mert a Mennybe fölrepültek,
félelemmel menekültek
a Földről az ég felé.
A Bal Lator halála napján
az Élet meghalt a keresztfán,
és a Menny remeg belé.

Sírva sírnak, mint a zápor,
Krisztus Úrnak a válláról
véres könnyek hullanak.
A megváltatlan Latorban
a Gonosz örökre ott van,
míg az órák múllanak.

Planctus (English)

for the Unrepentant Thief

At the apex of the cross
floats the Body's pale frond,
towards the twilight it inclines.
While into the shadow of Christ
into the hallowed refuge of Death,
the Angles all return.

As into Heaven they flee,
their hearts burdened with fear,
from the Earth to the Sky they ascend.
On that day when the Thief died
Life on the cross did expire
and the Heavens trembled with dread.

Like a storm, the angels' grief;
As from the shoulders of Christ
the bloody tears roll down.
Evil shall lurk for all time
in the Thief yet unredeemed,
while the hours pass on and on.
