Balassi Bálint: Having to part from his mistress at dawn (Bánja, hogy hajnalban kell a szerelmesétől elmenni in English)

Portre of Balassi Bálint

Back to the translator

Having to part from his mistress at dawn (English)

The dew is aflame on the flowers and trees,
The bush looks greener at dawn;
There is singing of birds, and rejoicing of beasts
When night and darkness are gone -
Yet for me there's trouble and danger and grief,
Because of all I have done.
