Rab Zsuzsa: Our Father (Miatyánk in English)

Portre of Rab Zsuzsa

A mi mindennapi kenyerünket
add meg minékünk ma!

A napit, de mi a holnapit kívánjuk, a holnaputánit! Legyilkoljuk érte a földjeinket, mérget vetünk vadjaidnak, madaraidnak, emelünk kongó kőkockákat fáid zöld kontya helyébe, s majd a kenyér-meddő föld minket mérgez meg az Ítélet éjszakáján.

És bocsásd meg a mi vétkeinket,

Honnan kezdjük a felsorolást?

miképpen mi is megbocsátunk

A Gonosztól!

Mert tiéd az ország
és a hatalom és a dicsőség,

Nem egy az ország az országlással,
nem egy a hatalom a hatalmassággal,
nem egy a dicső a dicsőséggel.
Add, hogy egy legyen,
tedd, hogy úgy legyen,
                                       mindörökké.
Ámen.

Our Father (English)

Our Father! Who art in heaven!

Yes, there you are, but should you come just once on the earth, should you just walk along among us, should the stinking rubbish of damp gateways breathe on you, should you just peep through backyard windows into rooms where among knocked over brandy-bottles women are gazing at a fixed point!

Hallowed be thy name!

You are almighty, so let man’s name be hallowed as well. You condemned him to be weak and mortal, so he didn’t care a bit what he did on earth.

Thy kingdom come!

But which is the one? Since in our fleeting life we’ve so often been told this is your kingdom, that is your kingdom, so many times, oh, how many, many times!

Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven!

If only the law of heaven and earth could be the same! But how could we govern on earth in a heavenly way? Will you help? Or will you again pour fire on Sodom? Have you picked out your Lots yet?

Give us this day
our daily bread!

Daily, but we want to have tomorrow’s and the day after tomorrow’s! And for that we murder our lands, we throw poison to your beasts, to your birds, we build up hollow blocks of stone in place of your trees with green buns of hair, and the bread-wasteland will poison us on Judgement Day.

And forgive us our trespasses,

Where should we start listing them? From our mother’s womb? Is our life long enough to mutter the black list of all our trespasses? But still please, consider our tiny merits as well if your mighty matters allow – are they from you? or from our miseries? We’ve but also been caring now and then, let that also carry a little weight!

as we forgive those
who trespass against us!

If ’as’, then we are lost and so are those who trespass against us! Because it’s hard for us to forgive, but you know it, on this muddy earth it’s more difficult for us.

And lead us not into temptation,

These are no longer temptations of yours since yours are so ancient that our toughness tackles them. These are neither godly nor satanic temptations but of someone lukewarm-hearted intruding himself between your fire and the devil’s ice. We hardly know him and that makes him dangerous.

but deliver us from evil!

He, he is the one! The above mentioned, the lukewarm-hearted! Deliver us from him! From Evil!

For thine is the kingdom
and the power, and the glory,

Country is not ruling the country,
power is not powerful authority,
glorious is not glory itself.
Let it be one,
so be it done,

for ever and ever.
Amen.
