Pintér Tibor: Marshland (A lápon in English)

A lápon (Hungarian)

Vonulnak el lassú zenére
a nyár bogáncsai.
Dalok se kelnek a zúgva
lecsapó moccanatlanságban.

Dermedten várunk
sebekbe fagyva
míg csobog a víz
és hív a mocsár.

Mondhatnám persze
erre a percre
készült a szív.
Hogy el-ne-nyelje
hogy elviselje
azt ami hív.

Csak állatok járnak
peckesen körbe
néhány még úszik
majd lemerül.

Üldögélsz csendben
és kimeredsz még?
Ennyi elég?
Vagy aki vagy?
A szív kihagy?
Vagy csak az agy?

Marshland (English)

For slow music marching
the thistles of summer.
Songs don’t rise either in the
whizzing standstill.

We’re waiting numbly
frozen in wounds
while the water babbles
and the marsh calls.

I might of course say
for this moment
was the heart made.
Not-to-engulf
but to endure
what calls.

Only animals walk
haughtily around
some still swimming
then plunged.

You’re sitting silently
and are you still out of line?
Is it enough?
You are who you are?
A heartbeat fails?
Or simply the brain?
