Křesadlo, Jan: Autumn in the City (Podzim v městě in English)

Portre of Křesadlo, Jan

Podzim v městě (Czech)

Zelený vítr zafoukal:
Hned slunce vychladlo,
když dlažbu ulic obrousil
na hladké zrcadlo.

A řadou běží na chůdách
lampy a akáty,
a podzim hraje na dudách
okapů sonáty.

Autumn in the City (English)

A green wind blustered through the town:
Cold, the sun diminished,
The polished paving-stones ground down
To a mirror finished.

A cavalcade on stilts displays
Streetlamps, acacia leaves,
On gutter bagpipes autumn plays
Sonatas, for wet eaves.
