Szabédi László: Irrationale (Irrationale in English)

Portre of Szabédi László

Back to the translator

Irrationale (Hungarian)

Mint egy kötél, mely elszakadt,

mint egy edény, mely elhasadt,

mint egy óra, amely lejárt,

mint egy vándor, aki megállt,

mint egy őrült, ki észt s hitet

egyetlen szóba sűrített,

mint egy halott, kit még gyötör

a süket és vak sírgödör,

mint egy isten, ki önmagát

megunva, hasztalan teremtett

a sárból embert, csak saját

sárarcát tükrözi az ember.

Irrationale (English)

Like a rope that has been snapped,

like a vessel that has cracked,

like a clock that has run down,

like a tramp, his journey done,

like a madman who has stowed

reason and faith in one small word,

like a dead man whose tortures live

on in the deaf and eyeless grave,

like a god, bored with himself,

who has created, but in vain,

a man of mud, to find the filthy

mudface but reflects his own.
