N. Ullrich Katalin: In memoriam P. T.

Portre of N. Ullrich Katalin

In memoriam P. T. (Hungarian)

Egyre több a visszavonhatatlan múlt időm.
Eggyel többen vannak, kik már nincsenek.

szülőfalum templomában
ásatások során
sok mindent találtak

fontos emberek
sírjaikban
évszázadokon át
pihentek
és most csak találgatni lehet
csontokból érmékből
írás-foszlányokból
az utókornak
mit üzenhettek

te mit vittél magaddal
miért siettél ennyire
hogy itt csak megírt verseid
maradtak
és magaddal vitted
az összes
meg nem írtat
mit senki
soha
rajtad kívül
meg nem írhat

nem találhat rá
soha
senki már
nincs az az ásatás

és még
mi minden van
ami
veled elment

érlelődik a gombabor
odaát
mi tesszük tovább a dolgunk
ideát

de már nem ugyanaz

nem nagyon
ismertelek
de talán
mégis

azt hiszem
ha lehetett volna
a legvégén
biztos
gregoriánt
hallgattál volna

de most már
odaát
hozzáértő szemmel
nézed
ízleled
a soha-nem-volt
kristálytiszta
mennyei
gombabort

In Memoriam P. T. (English)

I have more and more absolute past tenses.
Someone again among those never present.

the church of my birthplace
is now a digging site
things were found

important people
in their tombs
throughout centuries
had their rest
and now it just can be guessed
from bones and from coins
from letter-fragments
to the after-ages
what message they had

what did you take with you
why did you hurry so much
here just your written poems
have been left
and you took with you
all those
not yet written
which nobody
ever
but you
could only write

no one can ever
find them
anywhere
no excavation helps

and how
much more there is
that passed
away with you

mushroom wine simmers
over there
we keep doing our jobs
over here

but it’s not the same

i didn’t know you
too much
but perhaps
i did

i think
if you’d had the chance
at the very end
you’d have
wanted to hear
gregorian chants

but now already
over there
like a real expert
you watch
and you taste
the never-ever-been
crystal clear
heavenly
mushroom wine
