Bari Károly: City (Város in English)

Portre of Bari Károly

Város (Hungarian)

Beton-fák ágain
Neon-madarak lobogtatják
Üvegszárnyukat.
Kockakővel sebzett utcák
Kúsznak a zaj-rengetegben,
Piszkos por-csuhájukat fújja a szél.
Itt élek én. Eget-hasogató csörömpölés
a párnám, nem tudok aludni,
visszatérek útjaimra, árnyak
vonulnak előttem rángó szájakkal:
az idő vas-szögeit rágják.
Kőbe temetkezem szívem gyökeréig.
Mellemen hömpölyög szúrós fényeivel
az éjszaka, üvegszárnyukkal verdesik szemem
a neon-madarak, beton-fák ágaira
kötözöm sorsom.
Szomorú vagyok:
az arcok összegyűjtött mosolyából
és a szemek mélyén lapuló szeretetből
még nem fontam virág-csokrot,
egy Embernek, aki csillag-tűzben égő
szívével megvilágítja a várost!

City (English)

On the branches of concrete-trees
neonlight-birds flutter
their wings.
Streets bruised by ashlar bricks
crawl in the jungle of noise,
their dirty dust-frock is blown by the wind.
That’s where I live. Brattle piercing the sky
is my pillow, I can’t get sleep,
I return to my roads, shadows
march before me with writhing lips:
they gnaw at the iron-nails of time.
I bury myself in stones up to the roots of my heart.
On my breast there floods the night with its
piercing lights, the neon birds with their glass-wings
flap my eyes, I string my fate onto
the branches of concrete-trees.
I feel sad:
out of smiles gathered from faces
and out of love lurking in the depth of eyes
I haven’t yet bound a bunch of flowers,
for a Man, who with his heart burning in
fire of stars overshines the city!
