Silen buď a nepovol, jsi-li v lese žití dub; jsi-li pouze trávy stvol, schyl se, ale neustup.
Dub anebo třeslice, drž se půdy, kde jsi vzrost': zlomí-li tě vichřice, žil's jak muž - a to je dost.

Stand your ground and don’t give way, if an oak, in this life’s grove; If you are but grass, you may bow, but hold, still steadfast prove.
Whether oak or quake-grass mere, hold the ground you sprang from, fast: If by tempest torn, be clear, manly was the life you passed.
