Seifert, Jaroslav: Milenci v sněhu

Portre of Seifert, Jaroslav

Milenci v sněhu (Czech)

Kapičky zmrzlé u nosu
a pára z polibků dýchá,
sníh jako květy lotosů
napadal kolem nich zticha.

Že zmlkl pták a zmrzl snad?
V píšťalách rampouchů zpívá.
Toho, kdo umí milovat,
i pohled rozehřívá.

Déšť, ledy, bouře, mráz a sníh,
a křehké zdraví v sázce.
Co je to pro dvé zamilovaných,
co je to proti lásce!

Lovers in the snow (English)

Droplets to noses frozen cold
and kisses wafting steamy,
snow, lotus-blossom-like, enfolds
in falling muffling dreamy.

What if the bird fell mute, or froze?
Icicle pipes are singing.
Those who know how love to propose,
a glance can thaw, warmth bringing.

Rain, ice, nor storm, nor frost and snow,
nor risk of frail health stifles.
What of it, loving couples know
love has no care for trifles!
