Neruda, Jan: Každého jara

Portre of Neruda, Jan

Každého jara (Czech)

  Každého jara kmeny rév
přehorké slzy lijou,
že těch tak málo ve světě,
již jenom vino pijou.

Mně vše už jedno, zdali svět
ted' stojí neb se točí,
jen nad osudem truchlých rév
zas pláčou moje oči.

Each Spring (English)

Most bitter tears are shed each spring
By tendrils of the vine,
Because there are so few on earth
Who ne'er drink aught but wine.

It matters not to me if earth
Now twirls around or no,
Only the vine's sad fate again
Causes my tears to flow.
