Szilágyi Domokos: Borders (Határok in English)

Portre of Szilágyi Domokos

Határok (Hungarian)

Határokon járok örökké,
mindig csak a határokon;
ami inneni, ami elérhető:
végül is fájni kezd,
fájni, hogy megtudjam az odaátot,
s hazudom is, hogy megtudom,
vár a határokon
a szent hazugság, a remény,
vár - várom, várjuk mindannyian,
itt, a határokon;
tágul a határ, követem,
indulok, megyek - tágul a határ,
így lesz átléphetetlen,
így leszek egyre gazdagabb,
s annál sóvárabb, minél gazdagabb.
Határokon járok örökké,
örökké hazudom
magamnak is, nektek is
- mindenkinek! -:
hogy átlépem majd, magammal viszem
szomorú poggyászként a Földet, -:
megvámolják majd, mert van, van határ,
amelyen át nem engedik
poggyászomnak gyilkos felét,
őrült felét, képmutató felét,
hullafoltos felét, zimankós,
havakkal könnyező, halállal
teljes felét, és elválik, igen,
elválik a hazugság a reménytől,
millió-éves házasság után,
s addig is, addig is,
járom a határt, járva járom,
s minél könnyebb poggyásszal lépek át majd,
annál mélyebb nyomokat hagyok a talajban.

Borders (English)

I am always walking along borders,
always along borders;
what is on this side, what is within reach:
starts finally to hurt,
it hurts to find out about the other side,
yet I am lying, too, that I will find out about it,
the holy lie, hope, is waiting there
on the borders;
it is waiting, I am waiting, all of us are waiting,
here, at the borders;
as the border extends, I follow it,
I start out, I'm going – the border is extending,
the more impassable it becomes,
the richer I get,
and the richer, the more longing.
I'm always walking along borders,
I'm always lying, even
to myself, so to you
- to everybody! -:
that I will cross it, and that I will take
the Earth with me, sad luggage, -:
duty will be imposed on it, because there is, there is a border
across which they won't let me pass
the murderous part of my baggage,
the mad part, the hypocritical part,
the liver-spotted part, the frosty,
snow-teared, death-full
part, and divorces,
yes, the lie divorces hope,
after one million years of marriage,
(and meanwhile, meanwhile)
I am walking along the border, wandering, I am walking,
and the lighter my luggage will be when I cross,
the deeper my footprints will be in the ground.
